Healthy Active Learners
All children in Grades 1-4 participate in daily Physical Education to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Students are encouraged to bring only healthy snacks and lunches to school, in accordance with CBE Administrative Regulation 3047 - Nutrition. They must have a water bottle for snack time and sipping on throughout the day to hydrate – do not send juice boxes, sports drinks, or pop. Our school also participates in a variety of citizenship-building activities during the year.
SPECIAL OCCASSION TREATS: In keeping with CBE Administrative Regulation #3047 and our commitment to providing a safe environment that is inclusive for all children, staff will not distribute special occasion treats sent from home. If you would like to recognize your child’s birthday or a special holiday, please send non-food items like fancy pencils or stickers, or consider donating a book to the school library in your child’s name.
ALLERGIES: At Cranston School we are committed to providing a safe environment that is inclusive for all children.
NUTS AND NUT PRODUCTS: There are several Cranston students and staff who have potentially life-threatening nut and tree nut allergies. Cranston School uses a ‘nut aware’ approach, as we can’t guarantee that someone hasn’t accidentally brought nuts, or traces of nuts, into our building. While we realize that this request may pose a minor inconvenience for you when preparing your child’s snack and lunch, we would like to express our appreciation for your support and understanding as we work together to support our students and staff with severe allergies.
SCENTS: In support of the needs of those individuals who have sensitivities or medical conditions related to scents, Cranston School is a scent-reduced and scent-sensitive environment. Students and visitors should not wear scented products such as perfumes, colognes, or scented lotions to school.
Health & Wellness at the CBE
At the CBE, we believe in a whole school approach to health and wellness. We call this our Comprehensive School Health (CSH) approach. CSH is about healthy eating, active living, supportive social environments and positive mental health. As a system, we focus on the following four areas: healthy eating; healthy relationships; physical activity; and positive mental health. Each school creates its own approach and goals for health and wellness.
