Digital Citizenship at the CBE
Digital citizenship is about using technology and participating in digital environments. It is key to helping our students learn to use available technology responsibly in the classroom and beyond. Our school has a Digital Citizenship Plan that is updated annually, addressing how we work to build a community where we live and work together as digital citizens.
Visit the CBE website to learn more about how we support students to develop online safety skills and be good digital citizens.
Personal Mobile Devices
Student personal mobile devices are limited or restricted at all schools, unless required for health or medical needs, to support specialized learning needs, and for educational purposes. Learn more about our BYOD (bring your own device) rules.
Web Filtering & Social Media
Inappropriate or unsafe content may be blocked to provide a safe environment: some content is blocked for all users, and other content may be suitable for older students but not for younger ones. Student access to known social media platforms is blocked on school networks and school devices for all grade levels.
Technology at School
Please see the CBE website for current information regarding new Ministerial Orders pertaining to personal mobile devices in school.
In alignment with CBE’s K–9 “Away for the Day” policy, all personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, Smart watches, and tablets must be powered off and stored in backpacks for the duration of the school day.
The CBE is committed to helping students become safe, responsible digital citizens from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Through guided use of technology in the classroom with teacher support and supervision, students have opportunities to learn how to communicate and participate online in respectful and meaningful ways. CBE Administrative Regulations #6006 Progressive Student Discipline and #6008 Student Personal Mobile Devices are used to guide our responsible use of technology policies.
To support safe sharing and celebration of student learning online, families are asked to complete the CBE Media Release Form at the start of each school year. This form is available through your MyCBE account.
