Principal’s Post
Happy New Year! We want to take this opportunity to welcome everyone back and also want to send a special welcome the new students who have or will be joining our school community this month.
Your oldest (or only) child will be bringing home an important salmon coloured notice in their backpack that must be filled out and returned to school next week. This notice will help us with our planning for next year. A reminder that grade 4 students residing in the community of Seton will be entered into a lottery for the limited grade 5 spaces at Dr. George Stanley School. There is a specific question on the form for grade 4 families that will assist with the planning for that lottery. More information regarding the Dr. George Stanley lottery can be found on their website. We appreciate you taking the time to fill it out.
Kindergarten registration opens online on Monday January 12. If you have a child who is ready to start Kindergarten in September, please register right away so we can plan for their arrival. The link to register is on the Calgary Board of Education website. Expression of Interest for CBE Alternative Program Schools also opens on January 12th through your child’s existing MyCBE account.
Reminders & Ramblings
Drop and Go
The Drop & Go area on the south side of the staff parking lot continues to be a problem in spite of regular messages home and an increased Calgary Police presence. At one point on Friday morning there were 13 cars parked in the Drop & Go. Some cars were sitting empty with the engine running, and others had adults sitting on their phones waiting until 7:50am. For a Drop & Go to work, drivers need to pull to the curb, let their child hop out, and drive away. When cars park or wait in this area (for any length of time), it prevents others from using the area as it is intended. If families want to walk their child to their door, please park in the community or along the field at the front. Those who would like to escalate their concerns regarding traffic violations in the community are encouraged to do so through the Calgary Police Service Traffic Service Request page.
School Council
Our Monthly School Council meeting is online only this month. We are excited to have a guest speaker from the Active and Safe Routes to School program joining us for this meeting. They will share some of the data collected in our recent parent surveys as well as some of the planning underway that we hope will begin to address the traffic around the school. We hope you will join us online at 6:30 on Tuesday January 20 using the link emailed to you on January 10.
