Principal's Post

We are excited to share some wonderful additions to our school, made possible through a National School Food Program Grant, along with additional support from our School Council.

Teva Grow Culinary Garden Wall

One of the most exciting new features is our Teva Grow Culinary Garden Wall, now installed in the Hub. This beautiful vertical garden will allow students to grow herbs and plants right in the heart of our school, creating opportunities to connect learning across science, health, and food education. It will serve as a living, growing space where students can observe, care for, and eventually harvest ingredients, nurturing not only plants, but a sense of responsibility, hope, and connection to the world around them.

This funding has also supported a range of resources that enhance hands-on learning experiences, from tools that allow students to engage in cooking and food preparation, to rich literature that explores meals and traditions from around the world. In addition, expanded planting materials and classroom hydroponic systems will give students the opportunity to explore growing food both in soil and through innovative indoor systems, fostering curiosity and a sense of shared learning.

Hub Space - Tree Slab - Wonderful Transformation

We are also thrilled to share a special transformation within our Hub space. With the help of the CBE construction team, Cranston’s 2017 Arbour Day Contest Award, a stunning five-foot diameter tree slab, has been repurposed into a beautiful provocation and reflection table. This unique piece now serves as a gathering place where students can pause, think deeply, create, and connect with one another, supporting a sense of peace and thoughtful reflection in our shared space. Photos of this transformation can be viewed on our Instagram account.

Shared Spaced

Together, these additions reflect the spirit of Cranston School spaces and experiences that encourage students to grow, connect, and learn in ways that honour both individual voice and community. In many ways, they bring to life the values we hold close: peace, hope, and harmony.

We are incredibly grateful for this National Food Grant funding and for the continued support of our School Council. These additions will enrich student experiences and create opportunities for curiosity, connection, and joyful learning across the school.

Reminders and Ramblings

  • Please take a moment to check your child’s fees on your MyCBE account. Ensuring fees are up to date helps us continue to plan and provide enriching learning opportunities for all students.
  • As we move further into spring, students are spending more time outdoors. Please ensure your child comes dressed for the weather and has an extra set of clothes packed, as playgrounds can be wet and muddy this time of year.

School Council Corner

Did you know? Did you know School Council meetings happen just once a month in the evening and run about 60–90 minutes? You’ll hear updates from administration, learn what’s happening across the school community, and get a preview of upcoming events, all in a relaxed, no-pressure environment. Our next meeting is Tuesday, April 21. We hope to see you there (online or in-person)!

We are getting excited for the upcoming School Council family dance on Thursday, April 16th. Tickets are officially sold out, and we can’t wait for all the fun we have planned! Don’t forget to refer to your ticket for your selected time slot. Your support throughout the year helps make events like this more affordable and accessible for everyone in our school community.

We are still looking for a few volunteers to help on dance day. If you’re available, even for 5 or 10 minutes, please connect with a Parent Council member or sign up HERE. Every little bit truly helps make these events a success!
