Prinicpal's Post

Welcome to the 2026–27 school year! Whether your family is returning to Cranston or joining us for the first time, we are so happy to welcome our students and families (aka our Cranston Cranes) back for another year of learning and growing together in Peace, Hope, and Harmony.   

Each week, you will receive a Cranston Connection message from the school office with school-wide news, reminders, and important dates. These Cranston Connection messages will also be posted each week on our school website. In addition, your child’s teacher will send home a weekly message with classroom-specific learning, news, and reminders. Please take a few minutes each week to read both messages so you can stay up to date with what is happening at school.   

Although our numbers remain similar to last year, we are fortunate to have been able to add additional staff to our wonderful team! We invite you to visit the "About Us - Staff" section of our school website to meet the great group of educators and paraprofessionals who will be supporting your child(ren) this year. While you are there, be sure to visit our "About Us - Back to School" section for information about all things “Back to School.”  

We are looking forward to another wonderful year of learning, connection, and community.

Who Do I Contact? 

For most questions or concerns involving your child, including classroom learning, assignments, peer relationships, or something happening during the school day, your child’s teacher should always be your first point of contact. Teachers know your child and the classroom context best and are most often able to answer questions or provide support directly.  

For questions related to fees, bussing, registration, or school transfers, please contact our main office by email cranston@cbe.ab.ca or phone 403-777-6267 ext 0 and Ms. Keye-Leigh or Ms. Karri will be happy to answer your question or redirect your inquiry to the appropriate person.  

Absences & Lates 

If your child will be absent or late, please let the school know using one of the following methods: 

  • Email cranston@cbe.ab.ca including your child’s first and last name, grade, and reason for absence 
  • Call our 24-hour absence attendance line at 403-777-6267 and leave a clearly spoken message that includes your child’s first and last name, grade, and the reason for the absence. 

Please report absences directly to the school office, even if you have also let your child’s teacher know. This helps us account for all students as quickly as possible each morning.  

Meet the Teacher Open House – Thursday, September 10 

We are excited to welcome families into the school for our Meet the Teacher Open House! This is a casual, drop-in/drop-out opportunity for your child to show you their classroom and introduce you to their teacher(s). This is not a sit-down meeting and there will not be a formal presentation. 

To help spread out our approximately 480 Cranston families and make the Open House more comfortable for everyone, we encourage families to attend during the following times: 

  • Last names A–L: Drop in and out anytime between 5:00–5:45 pm 
  • Last names M–Z: Drop in and out anytime between 5:45–6:30 pm 

The Open House will conclude promptly at 6:30 pm so our teachers can head home to their own families. Please plan to arrive no later than 6:15 pm so your child has time to show you their classroom before the evening ends. 

If there is a pressing conversation you need to have with your child’s teacher about your child, please reach out to the teacher by email to arrange a phone call or meeting for another day.  

School Council Meeting (everyone welcome!) – Tuesday, September 15 

Our first School Council meeting of the year will be Tuesday, September 15 at 6:30 pm. We hope you will join us to learn more about School Council and the many ways you can get involved at Cranston School.  

Parking, Drop & Go & Pedestrian Safety 

With nearly 600 students arriving and leaving each day, the streets and parking areas around Cranston School can become very busy. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe by slowing down, remaining patient, and following all posted parking and traffic signs. 

A few important reminders: 

  • Please use our Drop & Go area on the south side of the school as intended. Pull forward as space becomes available, have children ready to exit safely, and keep the line moving. 
  • Please do not make U-turns in front of or around the school. 
  • Please do not stop or park in bus zones at any time. Our buses require the full designated space to safely load and unload students. 
  • Please use designated crosswalks and model safe pedestrian habits for our students. Do not jaywalk or encourage children to cross between parked vehicles. 
  • Please do not stop in the roadway or driveway, or parking lot to drop off or pick up children. 
  • When driving near the school, please watch carefully for children who may be walking, biking, or scootering and give yourself a little extra time during our busiest arrival and dismissal periods. 

A few extra minutes or a short walk from a parking spot farther away can make a big difference. Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe for all our Cranston cranes and families. 

Annual Volunteer Registration Required for All School Volunteers 

 We rely on volunteers to be able to offer field trips to our students. To ensure the safety and security of CBE students and staff, all volunteers must be registered with the school every school year before participating in volunteer activities. This includes completing the annual volunteer form and ensuring that you have an active Calgary Police Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Search on record at the school. All police clearances must be done through the Calgary Board of Education and are valid for 5 years.   • September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (CBE schools closed)
