NEW LOGO ANNOUNCEMENT!
The votes are in, and our new school logo has been selected with a clear majority, receiving almost four times as many votes as the other two designs. Thank you to everyone who took part in this exciting decision! We look forward to showcasing the new logo on our website, social media page, and on school branded clothing in the new year.
The crane featured on our logo holds special significance. The community of Cranston is named after Archibald Cranston, who established a homestead in the area in 1901. While the community honours his family name, Cranston is also a habitational name meaning “town of cranes” or “crane’s settlement,” derived from the Old English words cran (crane) and tūn (settlement).
Long before roads and rooftops, before storybooks and school bells, the land around Cranston School was open sky, grasslands, and water. Cranes returned each spring, gliding into the wetlands and river valley nearby to nest and dance. Year after year, they came back to the same place, graceful, wise, and never alone.
The three words framing the bottom of our logo, PEACE, HOPE, and HARMONY, also hold special significance. These words are showcased on plaques above the three main hallways of our school and have been there since we opened our doors 15 years ago.
- Peace – Cranes are often seen moving calmly together in pairs or flocks, reminding us to solve problems respectfully and thoughtfully.
- Hope – Just as cranes return each spring, hope reminds us that good things come with time, effort, and perseverance.
- Harmony – Cranes live in rhythm with the seasons, showing the beauty of working collaboratively and living in harmony with the natural world.
Cranes have been part of the Cranston story for generations, making this beautiful bird a fitting symbol for our new school logo. Just like the cranes, at Cranston School we stand tall in our learning, spread our wings to take flight, and know that while everyone’s journey is different, no one ever flies alone.
