CUPE Local 40 Job Action
As you are likely aware, CUPE Local 40 members have served a strike notice to the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). The union, which includes school facilities and cleaning staff, is set to withdraw services beginning Monday, February 24. Information to families regarding the strike action will be communicated centrally by the CBE – not by individual schools. The following link will take you to information and updates regarding the strike: CBE Labour Action Page. Please take a moment to look at the information in the above link and check it regularly for updates.
Pink Shirt Day
The CBE is committed to providing students and staff with welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments that foster a sense of belonging and a respect for diversity. At Cranston School our message is simple. We take care of ourselves, each other, our school, and the land. Next Wednesday Feb. 26 marks National Pink Shirt Day. The movement started in 2007 as a small gesture by two high school boys in Nova Scotia and has extended globally to over 180 countries. It serves as a reminder that EVERYONE has a role to play in promoting empathy, safety, and inclusivity. We encourage everyone to wear a pink shirt next Wednesday Feb. 26th. Let’s take a stand against bullying and make kindness the expected norm.
Reminders & Ramblings
Survey
At our February School Council meeting we shared a presentation about our school development plan, budget and fees. Recognizing that not everyone attended that meeting, the School Planning Engagement slide deck and survey have been posted on our school website under the “Get Involved > Community Engagement” tabs or by clicking on the link here School Planning Engagement Your feedback is important to us! Please take a moment to complete the short survey before March 4.
Pick-Up & Drop-Off
Please follow the rules/laws of the road during drop off and pick up. Please do not enter the parking lot to drop off or pick up your child at any time, including before and after school care drop off. U-turns and jaywalking are dangerous and serve as poor modeling for children. We have ordered some new signage for the bus zone and the drop-and-go zone that should arrive soon. Thank you for working together to make sure everyone arrives at school safely.
