Principal’s Post

This week marks the start of Indigenous Awareness Week. The CBE is committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Cranston students have explored the CBE Indigenous Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework this year. The framework identifies the following four, interconnected domains:

Yellow – Spirit – To Be (Where do I come from? What is my spark?)

Red – Heart – To Belong (What is my story? Who are my relations?)

Black – Body – To Do (Where am I? What is my responsibility?)

White – Mind – To Know (Who am I? Am I in balance?)

At Cranston we have made a TRC Commitment for the 2025-26 school year that includes Call to Action 62.3 - Utilize Indigenous knowledges, languages, and teaching methods in classrooms (focus on applying learning that includes inviting Indigenous community members to share knowledge with students). The two actions that we have selected to focus on next year come from the Heart Domain - To Belong, and the Mind Domain – To Know, where we will identify places across the curriculum where Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing can be woven in so that we can design and offer students and staff learning tasks that intentionally activate the spirit, heart, body, and mind.

Saturday June 21st is Indigenous People’s Day. We will recognize this day at school on Friday June 20th. Students and staff will engage in land based learning to move forward ‘In a good way,’ recognizing where we are located (traditional territories of the Blackfoot Nations, Tsuut’ina Nation, Stoney Nakoda Nations, and Métis Nation Region 3) and our connection and responsibility to this land and the stories and songs that have lived here for thousands of years.

We invite students to wear one of the colours (yellow, red, black, or white) of the Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework on Friday June 20th as we look  back to walk forward 'in a good way.'

Reminders & Ramblings

RASH OUTBREAK:

We are still on AHS rash outbreak status. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them at home. If they develop a rash, please notify the school.

FEES:

Please log into your child’s MyCBE account and make sure that you have paid all of your school fees for the year to avoid collection.

BUS TRANSPORTATION:

Don’t forget that the deadline to register for bussing for next year is June 22nd. You will want to register by that date in order to secure the best bus stop for your address. No bus fees are due at registration, and you can cancel without financial penalty before October. Register now or you risk not having a spot assigned for the start of the school year.

NEXT YEAR:

Please make sure you notify the office right away if you are moving and/or changing schools. We need time to prepare your child’s transition documents so that their new school can set them up for success.

LIBRARY BOOKS:

We need your books back so that we can put them back on the shelf and be ready for next year. Please return all library books this week to avoid overdue charges being added to your account.

LOST AND FOUND:

Our lost and found is massive! Please remind your child to check the lost and found for items before we box them up and donate them to charity next week.
