Principal’s Post

As we welcome the month of June, our school community comes together to honour and celebrate National Indigenous History Month. This is a time to recognize the deep and enduring roots of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples, who have lived and cared for this land for thousands of years. While Indigenous teachings and perspectives are thoughtfully woven into our learning throughout the school year, June offers a meaningful opportunity to listen more closely, learn more deeply, and celebrate the beauty and diversity of Indigenous cultures, languages, traditions, and contributions. We invite families to join us in this journey by attending local events, listening to Indigenous voices, songs, and stories, and making space for thoughtful conversations at home. These shared experiences help us grow together in understanding, respect, and relationship.

Reminders & Ramblings

Alberta Health Services has declared a “rash illness outbreak” at Cranston School. This is due to an increase in the number of students presenting with rash illness. This is a very routine rash outbreak investigation, and measles is not suspected to be the cause. The school is open and operational and is undergoing enhanced cleaning protocols during the outbreak. While many rashes can be safely monitored at home, we recommend that any child who develops a new rash in the next 10 days see a doctor for an assessment. Please do not send your child to school if they are ill and please inform the school if your child develops a new rash.

Sunscreen: As the weather warms up, we appreciate that families may want their children to wear sunscreen. Please apply sunscreen before your child leaves the house in the morning. If you send sunscreen to school with your child, please ensure that it is a lotion rather than an aerosol spray. Please teach your child how to apply their own sunscreen as this is not something that staff can do for them at school.
