Jen’s Journal | Principal’s Post

As we enter our last week of Winter and welcome Spring Equinox (the astronomical beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, shifting to longer days and warmer temperatures) at 3am on March 20, I would like to leave you with a passage from Ojibway Author Richard Wagamese.

“I’ve been considering the phrase ‘all my relations’ for some time now. It’s hugely important. It’s our saving grace in the end. It points to the truth that we are all related, that we are all connected, that we all belong to each other. The most important word is “all.” Not just those who look like me, sing like me, dance like me, speak like me, pray like me, or behave like me. ALL my relations. That means every person, just as it means every rock, mineral, blade of grass, and creature. We live because everything else does.

If we were to choose collectively to live that teaching, the energy of our change of consciousness would heal each of us – and heal the planet.”

 Reminders & Ramblings

  • As mentioned in last week's email, student conference bookings opened at 8am on March 12 and will close at 4pm on March 19. Due to the CUPE strike, the Calgary Board of Education has moved conferences ONLINE. Please log into your child’s MyCBE account to book a conference time with your child’s teachers! Don’t forget that you can also book with Mr. Murray (Phys Ed) and Ms. McBride (Music) if you would like to touch base with them.
  • If you have a child at home who will be starting kindergarten in the fall, please register them online right away through the registration tab at www.cbe.ab.ca so that we can plan appropriately for their arrival. If you have any questions, please call the office.
  • Due to the CUPE strike, the Calgary Board of Education has moved all School Council meetings online. If you would like to join the school council meeting on March 18, please check your most recent “Cranston Connection” email for the link.
  • Our Leadership Club has organized BACKWARDS DAY. On March 19, students and staff are invited to flip their clothing around backwards for some mixed-up fun!
  • After Spring Break, we will be shifting to an automated attendance messaging system whereby you will receive an automated message if your child is marked absent from school. This has been a common practice in CBE schools and with over 600 students, adopting this at Cranston School will assist us in connecting with families in a timelier manner when their child is absent.
