Jen’s Journal ~ Principal’s Post

Spring Break is here, giving all of us in the Cranston School community – students and staff alike – an opportunity to rest and recharge!  Things move even more quickly once we return and before you know it, we will be wrapping up for Summer!

Moving? Changing Schools? As we begin to prepare our student files, staffing and class lists for next year, please let the office and your child’s teacher know if your family is moving or if your child is changing schools. *Note* Grade 4 students living in Cranston or Seton will automatically be assigned to their designated middle school, so no need to notify us.

The CUPE 40 strike has come to an end. Ms. Margaret, Mr. Freddie and Ms. Maria are all valued members of the Cranston School staff, and we are very happy to have them back in the building. They have been missed!

Reminders and Ramblings

Save the date for an upcoming family math/science night taking place at the school on Thursday April 10. Students and an accompanying adult are invited to come to the school to play some math & science games together at 6:00pm. More information to come.

“Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

~ Mr. Rogers

Save the date for an upcoming Parent/Guardian Only (no children) workshop taking place at the school on Tuesday April 15 from 6:30-7:30pm. Play is one of our very first learning tools. It helps us to discover our voices, our toes, our limits. Loose parts play uses versatile, open-ended materials that children can manipulate, move, construct, and transform during play, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and imagination. In this hands-on workshop, Donna Gimbel from www.playperspective.ca will engage parents/guardians in a fun and interactive experience, reconnecting with the power of play. Participants will leave with an understanding of why schools are now re-investing in what has long been considered a critical component of a holistic education. Our regular school council meeting will follow at 7:30pm for those who are interested in staying after playing.
