Principal’s Post
The month of May and first week of June will see 12 new students join the Cranston School community! Welcome! You have come to a great place to learn!
We would like to thank Cranston School Council and Society for their recent support in purchasing us a new Smart Board for the Learning Commons, 60 telescopic stools for our community walks, 12 loose parts stations, and painted outdoor compound games! All of these items are being well used and enjoyed! We are excited for our four whiteboard flip tables to arrive soon!
Cranston School applied for and has been accepted to participate in the Active and Safe Routes to School Program next year through the City of Calgary and Ever Active Schools.
The program will assess the current travel conditions at the school by conducting a Student Travel Survey, Family Survey, Traffic Observation and Community Walkabout. A focused 4-day, 90-minute-per-day in-school residency is included where a team of students participates in leadership development, data collection, priority issue identification, and action planning. Using these findings, stakeholders (including the Active Travel Team, students, school staff, families, Calgary Police, Bylaw, and City of Calgary personnel and others) will develop a customized, comprehensive action plan designed to enhance safety and encourage active transportation. We are excited to have been chosen to take part in this program and hope to be able to influence active travel and safer driving habits around the school.
Reminders & Ramblings
Transportation Registration is Now Open: Walk zones for next year have been adjusted so that more students are now eligible to ride the school bus. Check your inbox for an email from the CBE for eligibility information. Registration for school bus service for the 2025-26 school year is now open through your child's MyCBE account. Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes in time for the start of the next school year. CBE Transportation will continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 22 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 22 deadline, it may take until mid-October before those students are able to ride the bus. Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025. Don’t delay!
