Principal’s Post
Next week, CBE schools will be observing Truth and Reconciliation Week, a time to reflect on the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada. Throughout the week, students will take part in age-appropriate lessons that promote understanding, empathy, and respect as we work toward reconciliation. To honour the experiences of Survivors and their families, we invite students and staff to wear an orange shirt on Friday, September 26. All CBE staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9:00 - 10:30 a.m.) at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site in downtown Calgary. This important event is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department. To learn more about this event and others, visit the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day website.
Reminders & Ramblings
- NEW IMPORTANT Seton overflow designation information and lottery information was emailed to families today. This information was also posted on the Cranston School website as well as the Dr. George Stanley School website as the overflow designation impacts Seton students moving to Grade 5 next school year. Please read the email and website information so that you understand the implications for your family. Dr. George Stanley will have a lottery process for Seton students for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond. The number of spaces at Dr. George Stanley School for students from the community of Seton entering Grade 5 for the 2026-2027 school year will be limited. *** All Seton community students attending Cranston School, McKenzie Lake School, and the new overflow of McKenzie Towne School will be included in the lottery.
- Thank you to those who have completed the online demographic forms for their children. These forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes. If forms remain incomplete, it may result in a reduction in funding for the Calgary Board of Education and Cranston School. Please ensure that you have logged into your child’s MyCBE account to complete the forms for this school year. Thank you for your cooperation with and prompt attention to this.
- Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Safety: Student safety is a shared responsibility. As parents and guardians, it’s essential to model safe driving and pedestrian habits. Your children are watching and learning from you. Each morning, Mrs. George and Mrs. Bodley witness numerous near-accidents caused by the unsafe behaviors of adults. These include dangerous driving and ignoring pedestrian rules. Due to the seriousness of these issues, we’ve contacted the Calgary Police and Calgary Parking Authority with a request for support.
For your child’s safety, we ask that you follow these important rules:
- No U-turns: U-turns in front of the school are extremely dangerous. Please find a safe place to turn around.
- Use the crosswalk: Do not jaywalk with your child. Children follow your lead, please model safe behavior.
- Drive to the end of the drop-and-go zone: Stopping early causes traffic congestion. The sidewalk extends the full length of the zone; your child can safely walk from any point.
- Do not leave your car unattended in the drop-and-go zone. This area is for quick drop-offs only.
Be honest, what's more important: a few minutes saved, or a child's safety?
