Principal’s Post

Today, our teachers and students returned to the classroom after the 3½-week Alberta Teachers’ Strike. We want to sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding, and support during our time apart.

The past few weeks have been challenging for everyone, and we are so grateful for the care and respect shown across our community. Our staff were deeply touched by the warm welcome this morning, the colourful chalk messages on the sidewalks, the treats and snacks shared by families, and the thoughtful gestures from our School Council. Thank you for making our return feel so supported.

As we settle back into routine, our focus will be on rebuilding connection, stability, and a continued sense of belonging for our students. Below are a few updates and reminders to help us move smoothly into the weeks ahead.

Indoor Shoes

Before the strike, students were asked to take their indoor shoes home. Please send these shoes back to school with your child tomorrow.

Halloween

Students are invited (but not expected) to wear a Halloween costume to school on Friday. As Friday is a morning Kindergarten day, afternoon Kindergarten students may wear their costumes on Thursday instead.

Please leave all costume props (masks, wands, swords, etc.) at home. These items can be distracting or pose safety concerns, and we don’t want them to be lost or damaged before Halloween night. We also ask that families not send treats or candy to share at school, as we have many allergies and dietary restrictions. Thank you for your understanding.

School Picture Day

Smile! Our rescheduled Photo Day will be Tuesday, November 4, with re-takes on Monday, December 1.

Remembrance Day

We will hold our Remembrance Day Assembly on Friday, November 7, ahead of Fall Break. Due to the short turnaround time, we will not have our usual student performances this year. Instead, we will come together to honour our Veterans through shared poetry, song, the laying of our school wreath, and a moment of silence.

Students who participate in groups such as Cadets, Beavers, Girl Guides, or Scouts are welcome to wear their uniforms that day.

Concert Update

The Calgary Board of Education has shared that as classes resume, the focus will be on teaching and learning, and that activities such as performances, field trips, and other school events may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled.

With this guidance, and given the short time between our return and the busy December concert season, we have decided to adjust our concert schedule for this year. Instead of hosting our usual Winter and Spring concerts, we will hold two concerts in the Spring.

This change allows students and staff the time to re-establish routines and prepare performances that reflect their best work. We know how much these events mean to our community, and we remain committed to ensuring they continue to be meaningful celebrations of learning and creativity. More information about concert dates will be shared in the new year.

Exciting Staffing Update

We are delighted to share that Ms. Berg and her husband welcomed their first child yesterday! Little Everett Alexander arrived 23 days early, weighing 6 lbs 4 oz. Congratulations to the Berg family and welcome to the world, Everett!

We are also pleased to announce that Ms. Wiebe will be covering Ms. Berg’s maternity leave. Ms. Wiebe is a familiar face at Cranston. She completed her student teaching in Ms. Berg’s class last year and has been a regular substitute in many classrooms since graduating last spring. She will reach out to her families later this week.
