Principal’s Post
“I am a mapmaker and a traveler.” — Brené Brown
Monday is World Teachers’ Day, offering an opportunity to recognize the remarkable people who teach and care for our students each day.
As educators, we have the privilege of stepping into the middle of so many stories. Each story comes with different characters, settings, strengths, challenges, plot twists, and pages still waiting to be written. Our teachers are both mapmakers and travelers in those stories. They use their knowledge, experience, creativity, and understanding of each child to help chart a course forward, while walking alongside students as they learn, stumble, grow, discover, and find their way.
Some days the path is clear. Other days require a detour, a different approach. As principal, what I am continually grateful for is the group of thoughtful, talented, and deeply committed educators who make that journey alongside your children every day at Cranston School.
On World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate our Cranston teachers and thank them for the countless ways they encourage curiosity, build confidence, create belonging, navigate challenges, celebrate successes, and help write a little piece of the story of the children entrusted to their care. Happy World Teachers’ Day to our incredible Cranston teaching team!
Reminders & Ramblings
School Photo Day
Tuesday, October 6: Smile! School Photo Day is this Tuesday.
Our Grade 4 Safety Ambassadors Are Back!
Beginning Monday morning, watch for our new Grade 4 Safety Ambassadors in their blue vests in the Drop & Go zone! Like last year, these student leaders will be there to greet younger students and help them safely make their way from their vehicle to their school doors. If you are using the Drop & Go, please have backpacks, hugs, and goodbyes taken care of before you pull in. Our Safety Ambassadors can help your child from there, allowing you to remain in your vehicle and keep the Drop & Go line moving safely and efficiently. We are excited to see our new Grade 4 students take on this important leadership role in our school!
Attendance Matters
If your child will be absent, families must notify the school each day of the absence and provide the reason so that we can code the absence correctly. Please email cranston@cbe.ab.ca or call our 24-hour absence line at 403-777-6267 and leave a clear message with your child’s name and the reason for their absence. Consistent attendance helps children stay connected to their learning, classroom routines, teachers, and peers. Regular attendance and arriving on time are important parts of student success.
