Principal’s Post

As we head into the Family Day long weekend, I want to take a moment to acknowledge that the tragic news out of British Columbia yesterday has understandably impacted many across our country. When something like this happens in a school community, it touches all of us. Schools are places of learning, belonging, and care, and when one is shaken, we are reminded just how interconnected we all are.

At Cranston School, we are a family. Families support one another. They check in. They listen. They create space for big feelings. Over the coming days, depending on the age of your children, they may have big questions or big emotions as they try to make sense of things. Some may want to talk; others may not. Both are okay. What matters most is that they know the adults in their lives are present, calm, and ready to support them.

Our new school logo reminds us of who we are as a community. The three words framing the bottom, PEACE, HOPE, and HARMONY, feel especially important at times like this.

Peace – Cranes are often seen moving calmly together in pairs or flocks, reminding us that even when the world feels unsettled, we can choose peaceful responses, kind words, and compassionate actions.

Hope – Just as cranes return each spring, hope is what carries us forward when things feel uncertain.

Harmony – Cranes live in rhythm with the seasons, showing the beauty of working collaboratively and living in harmony with the natural world. Just like the cranes, at Cranston School we know that while everyone’s journey is different, no one ever flies alone.

This long weekend, I encourage you to lean into family time, however that looks for you. Rest. Connect. Step outside. Laugh together. Check in with one another.

If your family needs additional support during the break, please know that reaching out is a sign of strength and that help is available:

Our “Champions Feed Champions – Knock Down Hunger” challenge is underway. We are hoping to collect a CHAMPION SIZED amount of cereal by February 20th to support the Calgary Food Bank. Our goal is to “knock down hunger” by building an Olympic-sized domino track of cereal boxes before sending the boxes to the Calgary Food Bank. Thank you to everyone who has donated cereal boxes this past week! If you would still like to help, it's not too late! Please send cereal to school with your child by February 20. Thank you for your support!
